The Newfoundland Francophone community is only 3000 members strong in a province of 500,000 Anglophones. The struggle to keep their language, cultural identity and way of life has been a battle since the French settled the shore in the mid-sixteenth century. Today the Fancophones of the Port au Port Peninsula are proud of their heritage and are working hard to preserve their langauge. The younger generations are coming to appreciate where their families came from, who they are now, and where their future is going.
