This three-part video uses still photographs and maps to survey the history of mining. The first covers the early history of mines and mineral exploration from the first mine opened, in 1773 at Shoal Harbour, to the discovery at Bell Island in 1895, while the second part covers the opening of mines at Buchans, St. Lawrence and Western Labrador. The final part introduces present operations and ongoing exploration and technological advances. A promising future includes new high-tech minerals.
