Bess Throckmorton discovers she is descended from Sir Walter Raleigh, daring adventurer and favourite courtier of Queen Elizabeth I. She visits the Bloody Tower in London, curious to see where he was imprisoned. There, she is amazed to find her ancestor's ghost waiting for her.
