As the last U.S. 1942 troops pull out of the Philippines, several American nurses refuse to abandon the wounded soldiers. Led by Col. Maggie Jessup (Susan Sarandon), the nurses continue to run their makeshift jungle hospital until they are captured by the Japanese army. For nearly three years, the women are subjected to disease, malnutrition, and torture in a POW camp.
