Summary:
The long-range transport of airborne pollutants involves a variety of acidicsubstances, including sulphates and nitrates, which are deposited in the formof gases, solids, or liquids (wet deposition), with wet depositiontraditionally used as a benchmark indicator of acidic pollution. The areareceiving high wet sulphate deposition coincides with the area of EasternCanada which is mapped and described under the Canada Land Inventory Program. This report identifies the extent of 'prime lands' for agriculture, forestry, outdoor recreation, and waterfowl which may be at risk due to aciddeposition, and tabulates and analyzes CLI data by wet sulphate depositionzones for Eastern Canada as a whole and for the individual provinces.
