Summary:
During the summers of 1987-89 and 1991, extensive surveys were conducted by helicopter in coastal areas and watersheds in Labrador to expand knowledge on distribution and abundance of Harlequin Ducks and Peregrine Falcons, both of which are designated as endangered in eastern Canada. Further to these surveys has been the original research associated with the environmental assessment of low-level flying, field work associated with the development of avoidance criteria for low-level flying, and preliminary surveys of tributaries of the lower Churchill River now being assessed for hydroelectric development. In 1992, aerial surveys of waterfowl breeding in the upper Churchill River watershed were conducted under the Canada-Newfoundland Comprehensive Labrador Cooperation Agreement. This report provides the results of the surveys.
