A story about a man who believes he had, as a precocious child of three, deliberately caused the death of a beautiful small boy, probably through an emerging jealousy. This guilt haunts him all his life, causing depressions, and a sense of worthlessness and evil, allowing him very little space to enjoy life. Yet he plodded on, like a good soldier, doing good, gaining respect, in spite of the heavy load he carried. Would he ever be happy? It seemed the Universe was ever trying to tell him he would, but he was blind to it, and blind to his own worth.
