Summary:
After his murder trial, any hope Bill Wheeler has to resume a normal life vanishes when he is tasted by CSIS for a second undercover mission in Afghanistan. Returning to Ottawa, he intends to fly back home to Newfoundland for some down time with Beebee, his lawyer, the woman he can't get enough of. His plans change when a Nor'easter rolls up the Eastern Seaboard, wreaking havoc, and grounding all flights. He calls home to learn that hundreds of hunters and guides are stranded in the wilderness. His brother-in-law, Josh, is missing. Billy rents a truck and drives throught the storm to the Newfoundland ferry. He leaves the truck, boards on foot, and hitches a ride home. Emergency services are fully tasked, so he sets out by boat heading into the wilderness, to the far end of Portland Creek Inner Pond, planning to walk upstream to find Josh. Unknown to Billy, Josh, a wealthy American hunter and his guide are being pursued by assassins, intent on killing the hunter, and leaving no witnesses. Meanwhile, reporter Gary Philpott, moose hunting around the lake, encounters a wounded man, who tells him there is a gun battle taking place in the interior. Philpott thinks he has an exclusive but a bartender tips off another reporter, Dirk Bradbury, and the action escalates.
